9/23/2016 0 Comments The One with the RabbitThe local pregnancy center in our town is having an auction of old rocking chairs that have been repainted by volunteers/artists in the community. Some in my family and friends know what a big fan I am of artist Beatrix Potter and her Peter Rabbit story books. The drawings on this rocking chair are a knock off from her book titled, The Tale of Peter Rabbit. Here is the rocking chair when I first brought it home. It's in good shape just scruffed up quite a bit. I had a beautiful day to paint it outside. i used Rustoleum's Chalk Paint in Serenity Blue. I had another beautiful day to paint on the embellishments, trying to match the same colors Beatix Potter used used in her publications. I used the grid system to copy the images and get them to look very close to the original. Making progress, by the time I reached this point, I was about two weeks into the project. Final product! I'm done! I did away with the white oval patch I first painted on the headrest I wasn't happy with it so I went ahead and painted the whole headrest white. If I could do it all over again, I would have a Peter Rabbit and Friends nursery. Wouldn't that be adorable?? I am not selling this rocking chair, I volunteered my time to paint it for an auction for the local crisis pregnancy center. Lets hope there will he many more rocking chairs that have been transformed and get a chance for another life, not to mention it's also for a worthy cause.
Thanks for stopping by! Bev

RETRO STYLE TRAVEL POSTER - M22 in the Autumn 11 3\\4" x 23 1\\4" Painted on a Gesso Board with a coarse grain finish and deep panels Used acrylic paints Michiganders take pride in their state, it has been my observance since we moved here a little over two years. Every store, shop, restaurant you walk into you will find something pertaining to the Mitt, Mitten, in other words, the state of Michigan. Cities along the west coast of MI are particularly proud of Lake Michigan and M-22, the majestic scenic route dubbed #1 by USA Today in 2015. After reading that article in USA Today the idea to paint some retro style travel posters of Lake Michigan and of M-22 immediately popped into my head. Hence, my Retro Style Travel Posters. The kind of posters used back in 40's-60's travel agencies or magazines. All you had to do was look at the picture and next thing you know, you're on a plane to that destination. These are quickly becoming a local favorite where I sell my art. This is the 3rd one I've painted and they have all sold, this one in particular wasn't on the shelf more than three hours and it sold! Needless to say, i need to get to work on another one pretty soon. |
