4/7/2015 0 Comments PLAYING WITH THE BUOYSWhat could be more fun than making buoys for my booth to sale? Continue reading and see how I made them. I first scoured Pinterest to get ideas on how to make them and paint them. There's plenty of information on there regarding buoys, including how to cut them. Hubby and I went to Home Depot last week and bought two 10 foot 4x4's. At the store we had them both cut down in half. Once we got them home cut them down a little more to the sizes I wanted. This is what I ended up with: 1 18 1/2", 1 14 1/2", 2 13", 2 11", and 1 9 1/4". I also ended up with a few inches of scrap wood which I'll save as I'm sure I'll find something to do with it. Here are the blocks of wood once I shaped the tops with a circular saw and then drilled a hole in each. I started to paint one but then remembered I needed to take a picture before I went any further. The above buoy is the only one I added text to. It has "Manistee" on one side, "Michigan" on the opposite, and Manistee's coordinates longitude and latitude on the other sides. The light blue color, black lettering and brown wax give it that Vintage effect I love (click on the above pictures to get a full view of the buoy). This one I painted plain with a turquoise color and added brown wax to give it a vintage effect. I also added a handmade Monkey Fist knot which I threaded through the hole, tied and hung. I did this with each buoy. I had a lot of fun making the buoys. The whole time I had Kenny Loggins' song playing in my mind, "Playing With The Boys" - don't really know what it's about but I love the tune.
Stop by REDEEMED where these buoys are being sold.
